Kshar Karma (Indigenous Alkali)<\/u><\/strong><\/p>

Ayurveda\u00a0depends largely upon the medicinal plants for the therapy. Among the four\u00a0Vedas – Rig-Veda, Yajurveda, Samaveda, and\u00a0Atharvaveda\u00a0– the\u00a0Atharvaveda\u00a0is considered to be one from which\u00a0Ayurveda\u00a0is derived and several medicinal plants are mentioned that can be used as a drug.\u00a0Kshara\u00a0is the herbal extracts of plants. Kshara\u00a0can be a multiple combination of many herbs or may be from single herb.\u00a0This alkaline preparation has many therapeutic usages and many surgical procedures.\u00a0Ksharkarma\u00a0is useful as the substitute of surgical instruments, because they can be used safely on the patients who are afraid of surgery. It has been proved to be effective in treating many disorders like\u00a0piles, fissures, fistula in ano, abscess, pilonidal sinus<\/strong>\u00a0etc. External application of\u00a0Kshara\u00a0is indicated in children, weak persons and decrepit.\u00a0Ksharakarma\u00a0has been considered as a wealth and a strong weapon in\u00a0Ayurvedic\u00a0Pharmacopeia. Definition<\/u><\/strong>: <\/u><\/p>

Kshar refers to the alkaline substances derived from plants or minerals that are used in the treatment. Karma means action or therapy, hence Kshar Karma is the therapeutic use of these caustic substances.<\/p>

Importance of Indigenous alkali (Kshar)<\/u><\/strong><\/p>

  • The Indigenous alkali (Kshar) consider as advanced amongst all surgical (shastra) & Para surgical (anushastra).<\/li>

    Mechanism of indigenous alkali (Kshara) on Haemorrhoids: <\/u><\/strong><\/p>

    Indigenous alkali (Kshara)\u00a0was applied to the internal haemorrhoids. It was observed that the Pile mass became black in 35-40 seconds. Diluted vinegar or Lemon juice (citric acid) was used to neutralize the\u00a0effect after proper burning of pile mass.<\/p>
